I've just spotted this one on ebay, from someone in Wales who doesn't normally sell coins. Looks like a Chinese fake to me!

What raises suspicions here?

What raises suspicions here?

- Reverse rim looks as if it has mould marks
- Date numerals look crude and spacing differs from genuine coin on PCGS website
- Details generally look mushy
- Coppery colour seems to be visible through the silver plating

Thanks. I Googled "1844 Silver Dollar - Images" and saw many date logos that looked exactly like this. Just curious.

Yep, clownish date digits, mushy detail, and the look of some non-silver alloy. Wonder if the seller knows; it's certainly not hard to ID this one as a counterfeit.

A full grade difference in wear from obverse to reverse tells me something is a foot.
