For those that store their coins in 2x2 and then place them in vinyl pages, how do you organize the pages. There is probably a hundred ways you can organize these, but I thought I would ask to see the most popular ways as I am considering putting all my loose 2x2's in pages.
Do you start with the first "slot" and just add coins as you get them?
Orgainze by date and MM as if it were an album?
Dedicate a page to a denomination no matter the series?

i put them in as an album Roosevelt dimes for example in the first slot I put the 1946-p then the d in the next and so on. but please do this as it is a real pain make sure you leave an opening in the pages for the ones you dont have so dont put a 64-p in the spot a 47-d is supposed to go my grandpa did this with his canadian penny collection he gave to me and it is a real pain when you have most of the pennies from 1900-2008 and you get one you need and you have to rearrange the whole book to put one coin in

I usually use 2x2's for Worldwide (Canadian and American go into folders/albums). My 2x2 albums are in alphabetical order. I usually make sure I have a good supply of pages on hand, too. I use Ultra-Pro pages for slides, believe it or not, primarily because they aren't as rigid as coin pages. I found that in most plastic coin pages, the pockets are usually too tight because most 2x2's are not square like they're supposed to be. As well, most coin pages usually dry out over time and become brittle. As to rigididty, I find that the Ultra-Pros are fine. Having to move coins under these conditons isn't all that tough, and adding a page in if needed is no big deal. I do a lot of research as well. For example, I collect coins from Ireland. Finding a website like http://www.irishcoinage.com/index.html is a Godsend, because it tells me exactly how many coins were in the set. For those I don't have but could conceivably get, I'll leave an empty pocket. If the coin is a major rarity, I don't bother. If I can't find a helpful website, I'll begrudgingly look at a Krause catalogue, even though I don't find them to be the perfect source, either.

When I first started collecting, I split the pages up into 3 seperate books. One book had pennies and nickels, one had dimes, quarters, and odds and ends(which were mainly type coins), and another one that had halves and dollars. Then with those, I would organize it by date, but that became a pain because then when I got a date that I didn't have I would have to take them all out to reorganize it. Now I just keep it a related to one another but the dates are mixed.

Moving coins around a page was a concern if trying to keep them by date. I think I will just dedicate a page to one type and not worry about dates and mint marks.

Mine are in order by year (Lincolns). I also leave a few spots empty so I can expand with other examples within a date/MM range. When I first started organizing this way I didn't leave any empty slots, so when I wanted to add I had to move EVERYTHING down.....arrrrgggggggg....we always learn the hard way. LOL

I have a LOT of binders.. coins alphabetized by country, with Great Britain, Canada and US having separate binders (and the Lincolns have their OWN binder! ). All countries are grouped by (1) denomination then by (2) date. Lots of empty squares to enable expansion in either direction (yes, indeed, we do learn that one the hard way!). I have a lot of duplicates, too, but that's alright.. at least until I finish cataloging and start pruning I really like the way the 2x2's and album pages allow for any type of coin organization you could want.

I used to try that system but sort of gave up. I now use those plastic pages for the 20 - 2x2's for duplicate proofs only. Even there I run into problems. At first I left spaces for extra duplicates. Then had to move them all around as some extra, extra ones were accumulated. Eventually I just put all of one denomination per page and the heck with dates. One really large 3 ringed binder. The collections are all in Whitman Albums. Most are from a dealer that has no use for them. He purchases sets from people, puts all coins in small flips for coin show sales and gives me the albums. Also, purchased blank albums, pages and Gold colored letters and numbers from Whitman to make my own albums. I like this better since I can make an album of Dimes, for example, from 1916 to present. Or Liberty Head, Buffalo and Jefferson nickels all in one binder. With that one I leave all proofs out.

My lincoln set is all sorted by date and mintmark. Any dupes I put at the end of the binder in no specific order. Thay way my best coins stay in my main set etc. All my proofs are not mixed in the bu's either, they get their own pages as well.
And yeah, it really stinks when you made a mistake and have to shift hundreds of 2x2's lol.

I have few 2x2 albums and I like to add some specific news articles with those blank album pages too. For example with old Swedish coins I have article about similar coins which were found in my home city (archaeological news). So I have a quite nice happening when look coins. And if I have been in coin museum abroad, I like to add those museum "leaflets" into albums too

Eurocoin that is a neat idea to keep news articles and such with the coins. It's like a coin scrap book.

I have 2 different albums. 1 is All US and Canada, and the other is everything else. Within the US and Canada, I separated them by denomination. Starting with pennies and moving up to dollars. The everything else was at first separated by country, but no other way. Now, since I dont feel like always re-arranging its just stick it in an empty slot lol.
