I know it is very worn but this just does not look right under the eye, a die chip or something? It looks too pronounced too me also the letters look very thick to me but I am always wrong about that. Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I was looking at Variety Vista 1948 DDO-001,1-0-IV and just under the eyelid there is a faint double eyelid edge appearance on this coin that matches the Variety Vista picture to me, however it is faint. But I cannot find the defined lower eyelid (if that is what this is) or die chip

It doesn't look like the eyelid on your coin is affected in the same location:

Looks more like your coin is suffering from die wear more as an issue. (also circulation damage)
