Found this today. One side slightly rotated from the other. Not in the greatest shape, but I haven't seen any like this. How common are these?

I would say it is a Magicians coin. If you can get a better pic of the first one it looks like the inside edges is the cut mark.

Yeah mcshilling. That didn't cross my mind but if you look closely at the second picture you can see the seam.

The good info on them starts at 1:20.

Neat, thanks for the info. I think you guys are correct. Looks like you can see the two edges on closer inspection:

a true magician coin can still be separated, a good knock on the side may shake the 2 sides loose , unless it is glued together..

I disagree that all magician coins can come apart. A slight interference fit holds the ones I make well. A lathe is the preferred method to make these, but I had to use a mill, and made these tools to do the job. The 1 on the left does 2 operations. Hold a standard quarter in the deepest pocket, plunge mill on center to a depth half of coins thickness and circle interpolate to the inner diameter of the rim. This coin is done, set aside. Hold a second quarter in the same pocket. Cutter starts at 3 o'clock and circle interpolates an OD that will fit in the 1st coin. But the coin is still at full thickness. The tool on the right holds coin 2, flipped over to hold the diameter just cut, then cut to thickness required to fit coin1. Now you gotta press them together with proper alignment. Easier said than done let me tell you. I made all kinds of different combination obv. and rev. I give them out every now and then, Secret Santa and other times. That's all for this episode of loonie's "How It's Made."

I used 1 of these coins on the 20 Question thread and took some heat for it. .

No sir. Sorry. Others are out there that are made way cheaper than I could do it. I suppose if you wanted a million of them, I could start a business.....

Machining is an art. My art shines on deep sea rigs, Candu reactors and even on the Canadarm on the space shuttle. 35 years lets you see lots of parts.

Back to the title. I didn't mean to hijack this.
