2017 Eagle $1 Doubling On The Date?

It removes the contour on the insides/outsides of devices. Not a plus for the coin. This can happen on a doubled die as well, but again it doesn't cancel a doubled die, but to a collectors, they prefer to not have this distraction a coin they would purchase.
