Was the 1911-D weak D an error similar to the 1922 Plain cent? I've looked at a lot of the supposed strong Ds lately that have been graded my NGC and PCGS and many aren't all that strong, even in grades like AU58 and MS60 or 61. Thanks in advanced!

No, not an error. If you are looking to purchase one, the weak D version sells substantially less than the strong D, so be careful.

If not an error, then why so faint on the weak D? The 1914 D and the 1925 D coins didn't seem to have an issue with mintmark visibility. I haven't seen a good explanation for this variety..
