Coin found in bulk lot. Obverse appears as per normal but a bit irregular in colour. Would normally put that down to age/wear. Reverse looks as though a different alloy with a brown stain over a good part of it. It is as though someone has obtained a 1c coin in the wrong alloy and tried to die it brown to look the correct colour. But who would take a valuable coin - obscure alloy - and treat it like that. Weighs 2.54 gms so in correct weight range. Appears to be correct width - certainly not wider than standard.
It's virtually impossible for only one side of a coin to be the "wrong alloy". I would assume the silver colour is paint or plating of some kind, and it's quite thin - see the splotchiness on the rim? That's the silver area worn so thin, the copper is showing through. With that giant corrosion crater, it's definitely been in some kind of exotic chemistry environment.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
Probably fell on the floor of some workshop and the amount of chemicals, oils and whatnot that builds up under benches would be enough to qualify as a vat of toxic chemicals in comic books to create superheroes (or disfigured coins and villains)
