Bumpkin Pillar of the Community United States 509 Posts	Posted 10/10/2021 2:41 pm Hard for me to tell from your pics, sorry. It doesn't look to me like the normal shape of a die break. I'm seeing more of an indentation that pushed metal into the shape you are seeing. It appears raised on one side but looks to have a slight gouge on the other side best I can tell. If so, then this is PMD, not a die break. Report this Post to the Staff

It could be a retained struck-through error, where a bronze scrap became embedded in the coin. The regular, squared shape suggests that it may possibly be a scrap of a rim burr.
