Hello Coin Community,

I have a 2008 D Andrew Jackson Dollar coin that appears to have doubling on the reverse. I notice the doubling taking place on the U and the N of United States on the reverse of the coin. It is the only doubling I see. Everything else seems to be accurate. Did I find my first DD? Thanks for your help!!

That is called Machine Doubling. After the strike the die movement altered those areas. This is not a doubled die, but a rogue movement that damage those devices. On a doubled die the spread is seen on the centers of the devices. Machine Doubling alters the inside/outside edges of the devices. This is common. This can also happen to doubled dies as well.

Just a few listings on the reverses. You might look at them and you will get a better idea to see what to look for on this series. (Often the areas affected are not where the listing are.

PLEASE no monitor screen shots! Please use your phone's built-in camera. With it you should be able to zoom in 5 or 6X, which is plenty for our needs. And always show us both sides or the entire coin. Thanks.
