I'm watching the "Steve and Don" coin show right now, and he mentioned that 2022 will be the final year the USA will issue cents.
I haven't heard of this before; thought news this big would be heard a long time ago. Is there anyone out here who can verify this news?
However, this isn't a huge surprise. It is a surprise though that it took this long after our Canadian neighbors did this in 2012. I do also expect a huge hullabaloo about this next year though in various releases from the Mint; maybe we'll finally see a silver proof cent.

Absolutely untrue, no basis for this whatsoever.

We can dream that the US mint will come to its senses. For now that's just made up

No problem with continuing to strike cents. Last I heard the Gov't is only losing $150 million per year doing that

Like I said, Steve from AVC TV mentioned this while chatting through the "Deal of the Day" segment while trying to sell rolls of wheat cents from the 'Causeway Hoard' for $3.99 each. I'll try to watch again the next time their show is on the air to see if they repeat their statement. I know that we're not supposed to believe everything you see on the internet, but by gosh, this was on TELEVISION!

We can only hope but no legislation has been passed. It's not fact until congress says so and with the gaggle of idiots in there - it's not happening anytime soon.

Even if they were in a cooperative mood, it would still be way down on the priority list as long as Jarden is sending cash their way.

Maybe on the 50th anniversary of the shield cent.

Quote: Maybe on the 50th anniversary of the shield cent. That would be a good time, otherwise they would need a new reverse design, as is tradition.

But do we really want to continue losing money on the cent for another 38 years? Isn't 14 enough?

They might eventually stop when the US dollar is worth 1/10 or less of what it is now. When a cup of coffee cost $49.99, maybe nobody will bother to pick up change from a $50. If not then, when the coffee costs $499.99, people will stop thinking that the last cent is important.
