Keep in mind the outside edges of the devices are often altered by vending machine use. So flattening will occur on the tops op the devices, removing the normal surface of the coin.

On the 1982 quarters, all these that year looked the same as for the devices touching the outside edge rim. Even when Machine Doubling happened it pushed the devices even further out on to the edge of the coin:

This was because of the master hub being swollen. But they didn't replace until the next year:

Note how on the 1982 quarters, the devices and the bust is larger because of the swollen master hub. Now look at the differences it made the look different on the 1983 quarters?

On the 1976 quarters, on Variety Vista, there are no listings for that year for DDOs.

Only two listed on Wexler's site:

But note on it. The spread is a Class one DDO. Rotated the devices.

Quote:
1976-D 25¢ WDDO-001
Description: A strong CW spread from a pivot at about 6:00 shows on LIBERTY. A lesser spread shows on IGWT and the upper queue.

1976-D 25¢ WDDO-002
Description: A close CCW spread from a pivot at about 7:00 shows on LIBERTY.

The 002 is not as strong.

@jrep, first welcome to CCF. Second, best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin so I have split off your reply to a new thread.
