Interesting Reverse Die Cracks and Die Chips on this 1983 LMC. Is it unusual to have two such errors on a 1983 Cent? Has anyone discovered anything similar? Thanks for your comments!

Those are weak spots in the memorial design and the 83 was one of the worst for these cracks. Those are better than some I've seen though, cool how it ran straight across and turned up too.

To answer your question about being unusual. No, this is absolutely normal, especially on 1983 Lincolns. I would literally be surprised to find a 1983 Lincoln that DIDN'T have die cracks. lol.

Thanks makecents and Bumpkin. I just never came across a 1983 LMC with two such distinctive die cracks. One is common, but two?

Appears to me as one continuous crack. Very nice, thanks for sharing!

Merclover, I think you are correct. There appears to be another die crack along most if not all of the bottom step of the Memorial. I will see if I can provide a photo to confirm that it connects the other two die cracks.

If you search long enough, you will find some 83's that look similar to this. Unlisted spike head with a cracked up reverse.

It looks like in 83 the memorial went through an earth quake.

Merclover, you were right . There is indeed a bisecting rim to rim die crack on this penny, which also connects to the vertical die cracks on each side of the Memorial. The bisecting crack was difficult to photograph, but you can clearly see it with the arrows which have been provided to track its path. I know that the 1983 LMC is renowned for die crack errors, but this was the first of such an error find for me. makecents, the 1983 Cent you displayed also has a bisecting rim to rim crack on the reverse (which I am sure you knew), along with the Spikehead. Neat error coin!

It is common to see as many of 3 corners of building to have cracks in that location. A lot of stress on the strike process.

Interesting coin. By any chance have you weighed it?

mr5hole, why would the coin's weight be a factor? Would that have any bearing on the die cracks?

mr5hole, the weight is 2.57 G---not a copper discovery coin. But it is a very interesting looking error coin. I am curious as to how many folks out there are collecting these....?
