I do recall writing about this in the past but i'll have to dig through my posts to find it. From what I recall it is part of the design.
Fun fact regarding this subject that not many are aware of, for 1985, these 3 markings the OP is showing are present only on the 1985 Pointed 5 varieties and work perfectly as a die marker when hunting for pointed 5's as the Blunt 5 varieties do not show them on the obverse.
