An interesting oddity, though I'm not convinced it's an error due to how round the coin is and how perfectly the rims are struck up. Wouldn't look this nice if the collar's borked. The "screw threads" go all the way around this coin. What else could've caused this?

Must be one heck of a tough bezel to move that much nickel.

What was the bezel made of ?
Pure Titanium ?
Highly doubtful that this is that kind of damage .

No need for pure titanium. Many steel alloys are much harder and stronger, plenty enough for the job. in fact the coin was origanally struck with chrome plated steel dies. A Lot of force must have been required though.

Bezel it is. That's an impressive amount of edge destruction without damaging the faces at all.

I think it is 2 failed attempts to bezel the coin. The coin did not enter squarely on the 1st try, so flip the coin and try again. Failed again. That's why the damage is tapered on both sides of the rim. Never got the coin flush.
