merclover Bedrock of the Community United States 10635 Posts	Posted 10/21/2021 12:08 am While rarity will still effect value, fingerprints WILL diminish a coin's numismatic value. That is why as a general recommendation, cotton gloves are advised when handling unblemished coins. They are inexpensive and available wherever hobby supplies are sold. You mentioned a 1983 cent, but showed us a 1991 coin. The coin pictured is in rough shape for sure, because of fingerprints. Report this Post to the Staff

ijn1944 Bedrock of the Community United States 19126 Posts	Posted 10/21/2021 07:42 am Searching for--and finding--a legit '83 doubled die ( DDO and/or DDR) will be a chore. Plan on looking through hundreds and hundreds of thousands of cents--and more; high volume searching is key. You could find one next Tuesday, or 25 years from now.
