This appears to be an improper alloy mix. It is more prominent on the reverse. Not sure why the term woody would be limited to cents. That doesn't make cents. LOL

I agree. The mixture was not totally completed. Also note on this one, unlike the rolling lines were see on some of the cents on the 1970's-80's, note that surface wear on the coin, doesn't remove this affect as it is deep into the planchet.
