I have been scouring auction sites looking for counterfeit coins on my spare time. I have looked at tons of raw coins and havent really found anything too convincing. Until I came across this.

- Lettering looks off in some places
- Lack of Detail in some of the flowers
- Bulbous looking details in some spots
- Second "L" in dollar looks suspect
- Denticles dont look like samples on PCGS

Please ignore the edge. I downloaded the pic's to my computer and did a quick photoshop crop of the coin.

If you do think this is counterfeit and I have missed something in regards to the diagnostics please let me know of other details perhaps even the color?

Thanks

I believe this is genuine. Just a bit circulated. I noticed the seller's photos were taken at an angle, so the relief appears higher.

Interesting point. I'm not 100% convinced but this is why I'm even doing this exercise. To learn more about counterfeit's. Its early still so hopefully we get a couple more opinions.

Cheers

Nothing jumps out at me about this being a counterfeit.

The photo are not sharp enough to see the details. The 1 at the bottom is not straight, but could be from a hit. You are correct the second L does look off. I can not see enough from photos to call the coin a counterfeit, but I would not purchase raw. Really hard to tell from photo about color of gold to call a coin a counterfeit as the white balance and back ground color come into play. The coin does appear to have some toning that does happen on gold coins, but more often with other type of metal.

Ok thanks for the opinions. I thought I struck gold on this one!

Agreed about judging color when the picture is most likely not color accurate to begin with. I was never going to purchase this coin but If I was interested in this date I would probably avoid it due to the undecided factors Ive listed above in my OP.

I will keep hunting and wont come back until I find something that is a slam dunk.

Cheers
