I originally made a post about this coin in the foreign coin forum, but after seeing Numismatic Student's (is he really a student anymore, after such amazing acquisitions?) posts I figured I would try here for your feedback. Technically these coins were made to circulate in USA!

PCGS straight graded this, but the grade surprises me (could be high or low!). What do you think about this one? I like the originality of it, but I want to upgrade it anyway--I want an 8 Reales coin with this same design in a higher grade...

Anyway I am eager to hear your thoughts.

Thanks, Numismatic Student! These are kind of all over the map. PCGS calls this EF(40). Maybe it is a weak strike?

I think these get a lot of leeway as to the strike. Doesn't look to me like there is a lot of wear. The picture in the holder looks even stronger.

I love the die breaks and originality of this coin--that's why I bought it (that and it is MUCH cheaper straight graded AU/MS ones that have obviously been cleaned at some point). Still, I want one with more detail on the crown and less smoothness on the globes. Thanks for your response and input. This was not a popular thread.

My first thought was a VF-30. Just a tad bit of luster left between the devices. But I am not good at grading these.

I agree, the coin needs a bit more detail to satisfy being a higher grade.
