Looks like someone put it on the end of a 1/2" water pipe and hammered the obverse.

As everyone else said, this cent was damaged after the strike. The reverse seems to have received an impact from a thin-walled metal tube that may have possibly been used to drive the cent into a larger opening (hence the obverse damage). Regardless, it's post-strike damage any way you look at it.
