The lettering is incuse, so increased size = Machine Doubling. There may be a die chip on that rock but I'm not familiar enough with the original deign to tell you for certain.

Thanks for that, yeah it looks like it's probably a die chip.

Also, if MD and DD are reversed, how can it decrease the size of incuse lettering? I can't figure that out...

It might be easier to try to imagine a normal device first, say the "8" in a Lincoln Cent date. If the coin were a doubled die, the added devices would thicken, and the interior space within the loop of the 8 with decrease in size. For a machine doubled 8, the devices will reduce in size and the interior space will increase. For incuse lettering, you have to imagine the background space as the "devices" and the actual lettering as the background. So the background space would be what is being doubled or not. Thus, the effect on the lettering is the opposite of what you would typically expect. I hope that helps, I'm not the best at explaining things.

On the DDR's on this design, the single squeeze doubled dies are on the center so the design. So on that area there will never be a DDR on that area. Also when incuse devices are hub doubled, they are reduced in size, not enlarged:
