Scored a bag of old coins and found this gem.
The coin has 180 degree die rotation.

So, the top of the queen's head is at the side of the coin that lines up below 1890? If so, then yes, I think you've got yourself a serious die rotation.

Agreed, if the coin like an americain coin I think we call it "medal" when the coin has an upside down portrait. And 180° would be a very nice fined. There is not to many listed in my Charlton and I think some have mayb 1-2 ever certified.

Quinn27.

Your coin was struck in "coin" alignment. Modern Canadian coins are struck in "medal" alignment for comparison. Take another look and let us know. . Your coin is intended to be opposite what modern Can. coins are. A normal coin, no rotation.

The coin is indeed in the American coin style alignment. The head of the queen is below the 1890 date on the other side.

My bad got my terminology backwards. Does anyone know if there is any of these certified? I imagine this is worth a pretty penny if real.

That is a Newfoundland coin. Up until 1908 they used the coinage alignment
so that 5 cents has the correct alignment.

That means it's normal. No die rotation.

It's real but no added value.

There were a few post 1908 1 cent newfoundlands in the bag as well with the Medal alignment. This is what threw me for a bit of a loop. I knew I had better come here before getting too excited.

Wouldn't be the first time, or presumably the last time they have made mistakes on that site.

For its general-purpose, it is fine, but when it comes to error or variety listings one should never take the info on there literally without doing some background research first to back it up.

Most times the listings were created by run-of-the-mill collectors that lack the provided research/documentation to create an accurate listing.

At one point I was going to reach out and help overhaul their listings with correct information, but honestly, I don't think it would make a difference because they continue to add false info even after others have tried to help.

That is what happens when a website allows anyone to create a listing, just like how wiki allows users to create information without fact-checking first, you get many mixed listings with real ones and ones that should have been further looked into prior to submission.

Wrecked -
Use your Charlton Catalouge for reference. Newfoundland coins are listed at the front
and shows that all Queen Victoria 5 cents are coinage axis.
