Hey coin community, I just started stacking silver and collecting coins about one month ago. When I was coin roll hunting and searching for varieties I found a 1964 Kennedy half dollar that I think is a DDR FS- 801 but I'm not sure and when I tried to look up more info and good images I couldnt make heads or tails of this coin. I have no idea how to tell if this is Machine Doubling or a variety, if I could get some help and answers from some of you more experinced guys or gals i'd appreciate it! thanks :)

Hey TexasCoinMan14, , and to your coin, thus is a classic case of Machine Doubling . One can use the search bar up on top of the page to search out other photos of Machine Doubling verses actual die doubling.
Cool to have you around!

hello mrwhatisit , thank you very much for the reply. So as far as Machine Doubling goes that is not considered a varity correct? like not something that would be on PCGS or NGC slabbed coins? If so, is this still something nice to keep in your collection or does it just get stacked with my other %90 silver and go about my day? lol

@tcm, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes that looks like Machine Doubling, which does not add to the numismatic value. This would be a stacker coin for me.

You are right in saying that Machine Doubling is not considered a variety; it would be just a later die state which started to deteriorate. Cool pics as well, though it would be a good idea to post the full sides of the whole coin in question.

. MD is not a die state,it is a minting event. Adds no value unless it is extreme.
