I'd say it was a good buy. 2022 Red Book has it at $500, Blue Book at $450. Pictures are fuzzy but it looks like it's in the original cap and the dots might be on the cap.

If genuine, the coin is 0.900 fine gold which means an actual gold weight of 7.52 grams. This equates to 0.24187 troy ounces of gold.

At the current spot value of gold (~$1,815 per ounce), the Jackie Robinson gold $5 coin has an intrinsic value of ~$440.00.

I'll leave it to you to decide if you got a good deal!

PS I would take the coin to a dealer who can accurately test the piece to ensure it is solid gold and not just a gold-plated counterfeit. A purchase price of just $75 is a bit concerning. Does it mean the coin is fake? Does it mean the coin was stolen and the seller was looking for quick cash (possibly w/o knowing it was worth more?)? It's hard for me to imagine that a reputable/knowledgeable coin dealer would sell such a coin for $75. (Sorry for being skeptical, but there's just something I find suspicious about this one.)

I recenctly traded a 1999 1/10 oz Gold $5 dollar coin for the 1997 Commemorative Jackie Robinson $5 Dollar gold coin and was trying to see if that was a good decision, or a flop.

I see you posted the above quote on a separate company coin forum before posting here on the CCF about an hour after that! However, on this post you said you paid $75, rather than traded a $5 gold coin for the $5 Gold Jackie Robinson!

Wow - good catch Steve!

Appears we have a newbie troll who is not sharing the truth with us. I'm not interested in supporting the inquiry.

@Winesteven: Thanks for the detective work!

An unfortunate situation to say the least - it benefits no one!
