If not scratches, they must be streaked staining.
If you have paid a premium price, you should get a premium product, just like all of the other hundreds of thousands of customers.

Most unbecoming, I'd have to agree.

Doesn't really matter the cause, it is defective. I would return it.

Wow. I'm really bummed. I hope this a one off problem. They've had 5 months.

Make absolutely certain that they will exchange it for another one before you send it back. If there are no replacements available, you'll end up with a refund and NO coin!
In this case, an imperfect coin is better than NO coin .. in my opinion!

Just in the hope that this is it - on my ASE Uncirculated W mint coin I just recently received, I noticed a black spot on it and had the same feeling. But then I discovered it was just a little grease or something on the plastic lens: wiped it off and it was fine.

Yea it's a major bummer and just shows where the mint is now a days. I'll probably just hold it. It kind of makes it one of a kind. Reminds me of the old woody cents, of course it also looks like a bearded lady. Lol, "The bearded lady Morgan" .

On the coin, all pics were taken with the capsule lid off. I don't dare try to wipe it to see if it comes off. Through the microscope it appears to be in the metal as there are no raised sections

Ouch. I would give it an acetone rinse. Hopefully as said it is just some grease.

The coin looks to be polished to death. So happy I didn't get any of these novelty 2021 coins.
