Can anyone shed some light on what I might have here?
Appears to be a weak strike of some sort. Additionally the edges are smooth and without ridges.

Hard to tell from these photos. Please crop your photos and give us sharp images. Coin photography isn't easy, but keep trying!

The coin has been abraded outside the mint. Just damaged unfortunately.

PMD (Post Minting Damage)
It was damaged after the coin was struck.

Altered surface. PSD on the coin. On a weak strike, there would be no outer rim.

On this coin it was sanded off and on the other side you could still see.

Interesting. Thanks fellas! Nothing lost as we received it in change recently.
Curious though, what sort of damage causes a smooth edge? There aren't and ridges and the 'corners' between each face and the edge don't seem to have rounding.

Put into a commercial dyer is often the cause, or smacked with a spoon on the outside edge of the coin. Some serious damage was done to this coin, whatever caused it is just a damaged coin issue.
