Within tolerance I think. Based on this, the difference is 0.453 grams or 1.698% of the intended weight. For a modern Mint product, that seems like too much to be off - I wouldn't call it "within tolerance." That kind of overage would result in a loss of tens of thousands of dollars if the entire mintage was over weight to that degree. For comparison, the original Peace dollar had a tolerance of less than 0.1 grams (vs. 0.453 grams). Something's off! My guess is that it is the scale's accuracy/precision. As I said I checked against test weights. 2 + 1 Gram weight showed 3 grams, 10g showed 10 g. So the scale is accurate. I weighed a couple of 1922 AU Peace dollars on the same scale and they came in at 26.7 g. Report this Post to the Staff
