Hello Folks, I hope everyone is doing well. I received my Peace dollars today from the Mint and noticed what looked to be a scratch by the date, the more I looked at it the more I thought it may be a Struck Through error. All thoughts on that will be appreciated.

Glue? I'd try an acetone dip.

The angles of the light and the shadows cast does make it appear incuse. Struck through is as a good possibility as any.

I have read and looked many pictures of Morgans that are damaged. This is the first Peace dollar. Are there more?

Yes, I would say it is incused. The darker part at the top is a little deeper than the rest. I can see how it looks like oil/glue, because of the color, which I think it seems darker than it really is because of shadowing. The obverse photo and all close-ups were taken out of capsule, the reverse photo I just left it in the capsule.

After seeing many posts of "damaged" coins,

It appears the Mint is following in the traditions of 1921.

I keep coming back to this coin and I have a theory about what may have happened based on the images. How about a drop of oil on the planchet that created the groove when struck?
