I am looking at this in a local auction. These are sellers pictures. It seems to have all the diagnostics of a genuine dollar. It is a scarce die variety, with fewer than 100 pieces exist in VF to XF condition.

From Heritage:
The date is the so-called Wide Date, evenly spaced, with star pairs 3-4 and 5-6 close. The reverse shows an extra spur of metal on the curve of the D, and the right bases of the T in UNITED and the second T in STATES are shortened. A leaf tip is centered under I(CA).

I feel like it is VF30 and probably details (cleaning and /or pitting on tail feathers). It does not match up to the know fakes shared here and on other sites.

Please share your thoughts on condition and authenticity. Thanks!

The obverse looks VF25 because of the patch of missing hair detail. Also the scratch by the eye looks like a toothpick that is about to pierce the eye. The reverse looks much nicer with a full strike but with the already mentioned pock marks into the tail. Maybe XF40 on this side. Net VF30-35 and I am leaning more toward VF30. It is on the borderline to straight grade and details from the defects already mentioned, but could go either way. A straight graded VF30 Draped Bust dollar has sold at auction between $1740 and $4080 in the past 2 years. I would target $2,000 minus $500 for the risk of a details grade and bid up to $1500 including the auction premium. Having said that it may be tough to get the coin at that price since there may be bidders who are willing to pay more, but probably better to remain disciplined. There is always a better opportunity tomorrow to buy a better coin at a better price. It is a nice looking coin but you want to buy it at an attractive price. How are you assessing your bid?

I think VF-30 sharpness, but if you have the slightest concern about cleaning (which I do), you should pass without hesitation.

Looks genuine and has nice eye appeal overall. I think a VF-30 straight grade is very possible and if you can win it with a $1500 bid you have done well.

I wouldn't mind adding a nice 1802 dollar to my collection....

Maybe VF-30, but I'll go with a net grade of VF-25. The cleaning is a killer for me but it does have good details.
Suffering from bust half fever.

I will be very conservative. My top bid will be less than $1500.

I net this one at VF30. cleaned? maybe decades ago. it could be pitting on the tail feathers but hard to tell unless in hand. would it grade straight? tough call on this but I need to go with the rest of the pack here that it could go either way which doesn't help if you are attempting to procure it.
