@tex, while that isn't a mint error, I'm not 100% sure what it is. It looks a bit like surface staining though. Perhaps a drop of a corrosive chemical sat on this coin's surface for a while at some point, but there was a bit of crud or something which partially protected the surface in the center of the drop.

It is not raised. If it were a die issue, then it would be raised on that area. It's not, too small to be a mintmark.

Well heck! I was given my grandfathers @
"Coin collection" After going through 4lbs of wheat pennies and a few containers of coins-I got some Indian head pennies, handful of silver quarters, and a bag of foreign coins. No errors or fancy collector coins. Guess Santa still just bringing me a lump of coal for Christmas #128540;. Thank you guys for your knowledge. Might just have myself a new hobby!
