Just picked this up from my LCS. I've known the owner for years, and he made me a deal that if I wanted it and it came back fake, he'd give me store credit. So I'm taking a small chance on this, but not really since there isn't a chance of me not spending that much with him anyway. It's currently in a 2x2, so I apologize for the glare. I'm trying to see if I can get a consensus without having to remove it. If not, I'll send it to ANACS. If I can get a pretty definitive answer without submitting it, I'd prefer to do that and not have hundreds of dollars tied up for a couple months. I tried to take shots of areas that I know are diagnostic. Let me know if I need to take more. So is it legit? If so, what should it grade?

I don't like the color or that the 2's are sharper than the rest of the coin and appear to be different shapes.

This coin is dead wrong. Does not come close to matching any known die pair. No knowledgeable dealer would offer this as genuine.

Id have to agree with Coinfrog. Even a dealer that does not specialize in LWC's should be able to do the minimal amount of research on die pairs and realize this is not a match. Not trying to bash your dealer, but if they were unsure, the legwork should have been done on their part before selling.

That's what I was afraid of, and hence why I asked for a guarantee before buying it. I'm certainly not looking forward to having to break the news. I did catch a fake 09SVDB for him though, just too bad that he got duped on this one. I'll probably suggest that he just stays away from ungraded big money coins altogether, which I myself tend to do unless I can get some sort of money back guarantee.

Doesn't sound like a dealer I'd want to do business with. This is an obvious fake even to a fool in a hurry,

Agree that it's not authentic. The obverse is not consistent with die pair 2.

Photos show a 1909-S VDB.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

Strange. The last two pics are of the fake 22-D, and the others have replaced the obverse photos of the 22-D.

Weird. All photos were of the 1922 last night.

No, not a duplicate! Just a newbie not knowing how to post images correctly. I used the same filename structure on a different post, so it overwrote these. I'll correct it when I get home, sorry about that!

I'll correct it when I get home, sorry about that! Correct. The images changed because you had uploaded new images for another topic using the same filenames as these images. As they often say, a rookie mistake. For everyone: You must use unique file names when uploading images! Please rename your files, using something descriptive like date and type is recommended.

Quote: The location of the 'L' on liberty and the rest of the devices are showing this is fake. @coop, the last photo of LIBERTY is the 1922 no D, not the 1909-s-vdb. I believe the 1909-s-vdb (the subject of the other thread) is genuine.
