Since I am a newbie please expect some of my questions to reflect my ignorance. I have briefly examined the obverse of about 200 of my dimes,so far. I get the impression that errors, such as doubling and off center strikes happen more often on dimes than on pennies. Any truth to that observation based on any of your(plural) experiences?

I will upload some pics in future with more specific questions on each particular example of the errors(or what I think are errors#128556;), that I'm finding.
As always, your help is appreciated.

Machine Doubling is more common on larger coins. I've not noticed off center to be more common on dimes, but you could be right. To be sure, you should be comparing thousands of dimes to thousands of other denominations.

I'm working on it. I've studied about 400 pennies, so far, with another 500 to do I have only just begun the dimes for a change of pace. I am enjoying it though, and learning. I've finally understood the differences between a 1982 small date in comparison to large date, with the help from the experienced collectors here on Coin Community. It's a reliable resource for gaining a some quick insight that will help me all along the way as I compare "thousands" of coins.&
Thank you!

Based solely on the frequency of doubled dies, mis-aligned dies, and off-center strikes posted here, I can say that anecdotally these occur more frequently on cents compared with dimes. There could be some bias though in that perhaps more folks are studying cents compared with dimes and so we just see those posts more often. Hopefully one of the error collectors will weigh in too.

With a lot more cents produced than dimes, the increased odds of having more cent errors is nearly a given fact. I have to say we see a lot more cent errors than all the other denominations combined. Your mileage may vary.

I tend to notice that dimes suffer more die clashes or off centers than any other coins - I think it could be due to its small size, where much more accuracy is necessary in the alignment is needed but more difficult to obtain
