The first shot didn't appear to portray its LIBERTY the clearest. I think this close-up helps out some for the grading:

I'd say VF-25.

VF25, though that shield looks pretty sharp in the second photo.

Oh, that is from my doing. Because I suspected that the date could be doubled or something, I used a safe porcupine quill to wipe around those devices.

It doesn't damage the patina and works better than a rose thorn. But because it removed some of the embedded encrustation it typically does leave that type of an effect.

It may be safe, but it does make it look cleaned in that area and affects the originality.

You are correct even though it's not a destructive cleaning that would detail it from a TPG. It could, however, cause a buyer to give it a downgrade.

Your comment is very helpful and does support the ever-present fact that 'perception is reality' in anyone's mind.

Going forward I'll still use the quill to uncover a potential upward re-punch or DDO on a date etc. This would be worth the risk in terms of ROI compared to a non destructive minor cleaning.

The bottom line is that I'll try to uncover only the most probable PUP without doing an entire cleaning of the area adjacent to a date...

thx
