I got lucky and found a known Kennedy variety last month in a proof set and that piqued my interest to look for more.

Well, I finally won another 1964 proof set last weekend and there were no Kennedy varieties in it but there was this Washington quarter that seems to be a DDR.

The separation and notching seem to be concentrated on QUAR, (especially the R) and doesn't match any known Proof varieties on Variety Vista.

It doesn't seem possible that a DDR like this one would escape notice till now.

Since I focus mostly on Lincoln's I was hoping others here might offer some opinions or comments.

I got a new phone and scope going it might improve the quality of my images but that's not proving to be the case, especially taking the images through the mint cello packaging.

Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, there's a dark spot that has a little color to it when the light hits it just right!

I'd say that the notching on the R of QUARTER is pretty strong. If that's how it looks in hand and it's not glare from the case then I think you've got a nice one. Cool find!

Thanks CH27.

That is notching on the first R. That is where it and the separation shows up the strongest.

But this could be a high bounce? Are the devices enlarged? Or are the normal sized? Some areas are showing Machine Doubling. The images are looking too tight in making it look like it is something, but back off to the full words, then you will see they are looking for something that is too minor to list, or Machine Doubling.

Even this far back you can see the DDR on this coin below.

Seen because of the enlarging of the devices.

Thanks for taking a look Coop.

I wish more of the devices were doubled, the separation was larger and I was more confident about quarters. But there is definite notching on the Q, A, & R. U has a slight separation line
The doubling on my coin is very similar to the doubling to QUAR on DDR-005 (but DDR-005 is a business strike coin. http://varietyvista.com/09b%20WQ%20...PDDR005.htm).

I may try some more images to see if I can capture the doubling better.

Hello,

I have a question for coop: I've seen you post at times, as here, that enlarged devices are (seemingly) a necessary identification for a doubled die. If so would you please enlighten me as to why you believe this to be true? Thank you!

Petespockets55: Definitely a doubled die, nice find! I have a couple of the same variety. Mild but still nice. You have a great eye!

Happy collecting!

Thanks for the confirmation EScottCoins and that you have a few as well.
Like I said I'm not real confident with "white metal" coins but this has all the hallmarks of a doubled die.

Coop, do you have any example images of or links to the "high bounce" doubling you are referring to for me to compare?

Thanks to everyone for comments and input. I keep learning everytime there is some.
