@sm, first welcome to CCF. Second, that is an interesting coin that you have there. Can you please also add an overall pic of the rev to this thread? Thx.

Looks like the coin took a hit. (notice how the rim is bulged out a bit. Curious as to how the reverse looks.

If it was damaged like this wouldn't we see some copper? Think more pics are needed. The reverse for sure and maybe a shot of the rim.
Edit: I'm leaning towards a struck through idk what.

To the CCF

An indented strike would not show that much of the rim.
As others have said, we need to see the reverse

SM420: we always need photos of both sides of coins posted here.

Something seems off the me with the size of the indent. This one appears a bit flatter in the curve than the true roundness of another planchet. We don't see many of these here, so it's probably just my untrained eye. I'd love Mike Diamond's take on this one.

It's been more than 24 hrs since this thread was posted. Hopefully we'll see photos of the reverse soon.

Hope the OP comes back with more images.

A regular indent wouldn't have the rim across the edge would it?

Maybe a defective planchet before the upturning machine put the protorim on the planchet?

Or a multiple struck coin, including a collar strike?
