I was looking at this mint mark on a 1964 D quarter and saw a D/D/D/D mint mark but I can't find anything on it.

Machine doubling. Note the overall size of the mintmark is normal in size. (Just the contour of the mintmark is altered) There is only on e strike that happened. It was all damage by a very loose machine moving after the strike in multiple directions. While it looks extreme under the scope, the movement was really minimal. I'm guessing that the height of the mintmark is taller than the other devices on the design, thus it was the one that was bush whacked during the machine because it was taller?
