This is the same clipped Morgan I posted yesterday, and I saw what looked like a scratch on the E of States. Observing closer started to make me wonder if it was a strike-thru a piece of metal that was on the reverse die. It does not seem to have the qualities of a scratch mark... We'll see what the more educated folks say but my bet is misplaced metal, with the damage so close to it.
Are you saying that what's to the northeast, over the O is a clip? Would a clip create the distorted O? That looks like damage to me.

You would have to see my other post from yesterday about this, and yes indeed, that is very much the clip in the first picture, but I was drawn to this feature after I posted the general coin.

I just checked it out, Nice find! I very seldom go on the colonial variety section but maybe should. The full coin shot shows it very well but would have bet it was damage from what I saw here, sorry.

I think you are correct about it not being a scratch. But I cannot tell if that feature is raised or incused. Does it ride up and over the E then back down to the field, or is it level with the field all the way through?

It's a strike through. A scratch would leave jagged edges along the sides. The damage at the 2 O'clock position gives less weight to the coin though. This is still a good find.

Definitely looks like a struck through to me, not seeing any displaced metal. I'll have to check out the full images so I can. Get a better look at the clip. Thanks for sharing.

Here's the full coin again Now under the date there exists a small rim Cud, and is in the vam-3 range...

So you've got a clipped planchet, a strike through, and a rim Cud on the same coin. Quality control must have been taking a break!
