1980 P Jefferson Nickel With 2nd "p" Mint Mark (?)

mr5hole New Member United States 21 Posts	Posted 11/22/2021 9:13 pm After coming across this coin last night and ultimately determining that both "Ps" pictured are virtually the same size + the unlikelihood of PM discoloration coincidently / randomly mirroring the size/shape of the mint mark, leaves me to conclude that 2nd "P" resulted from some sort of striking error. Note to show size comparison, the last photo is a "tape over" of the mint mark. Any thoughts / impressions (other than laughing) would be greatly appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/23/2021 10:43 am Looks like a corrosion spot. Note how it radiates from the center. If it were a mintmark, it would be raised. It is level with the fields. So it is not an extra mintmark. If it were, there would have been a lot found though the years on the other million coins struck with that die. So it is not a RPM.
