Such a descriptive title to this thread... how does one know it was not struck through a thin cord, or string, or just a line of hard grease gunk?

Well, the braid pattern can be seen along the entire length of the strike-through. Also, when you zoom into the feature, you can see lots of short curly 'strands' struck through all along both sides of the main, braided feature, which, to this error collector, is quite cool!

Looking at the first 2 photos, I'm sure all of us here would think it was just damage. When I saw the third and fourth photos, at first I thought the fibres were still there, then realized it was a whole bunch of little indented lines which happened when struck. Amazing !
Would the piece of twine get ejected, or could it stick to the die and do it again ?

It is like a cast fossil of a hairy worm caught in a nickel clay layer.
You can see the fine hairs of the twine. Nice camera work.
