I woke up a few weeks ago and realized that I was really, really old. I'm talking duck & cover, Buddy Holly 45s and Joseph-McCarthy-on-the-Senate-floor-in-black-and-white old. So I'm trying to determine whether it is my senescence that's responsible for my hugely variant grading of this pretty Half Dime, or whether -- just perhaps -- NGC left its back door open, allowing some pot-smoking, glue-huffing, too-much-LSD-back-in-1967 homeless guy to walk in, grade the coin, steal all the donuts from the break room, pee in the stairwell, and walk out. Your opinion? Edited by pristine2 11/26/2021 3:35 pm

I'd say looks MS-64, no signs of wear, toning is a bit...ugly...but otherwise problem free.

AU-58. The cheek looks a bit glossy for an unc, like there is some rub or cleaning.
I learned a new word today as well.

Given the OP's colorful language, I'm guessing this was AU-58 as well.

There seems to be a lot of rim nicks. They might be an indication of circulation or poor handling.

Nice strike, even for 1834, which is generally well struck. The centrils are exceptionally sharp. The obverse rims and first and second rear curls reflect light circulation. The eagle's head, right shoulder, and inner right wing feathers also reflect light circulation. The light circulation cameo and cheek abrasions also suggest light circulation. The surface toning is a bit distracting. Fish scales get some leeway because of their small size and thin planchets. Overall, I'm at obverse AU-58, reverse AU-55, net AU-55.

I was also going to guess 58. What were you expecting?

I dont know I was on the fence between 58 and 68. looks like luster rub on the cheek but maybe just the light .

I thought it was an easy 63. But, yeah, I can most certainly live with it. That's why I bought it. I think it is under-graded.

missed the cuttoff before the grade was posted. I Had this one at MS62. overall the coin I would grade MS63 and I knocked it for eye appeal down a point.

I don't recall ever being upset for purchasing by my own opinion an under graded coin at the TPG label value... I was torn between 58 and 63. The obverse image suggests slight circulation rub on the cheek.

For what it's worth, I think it looks better than a 61 as well.

I would think this would easily Green Bean (CAC) if submitted . Pretty sure you could ask 62 money and get it . Great coin for a type set !
