Example almost everyone says Kleenex for all facial tissues and that company really likes the free advertisement. 3M has no problem with people saying all post-it types of sticky paper are post-its. Again, free advertisment. Doesn't everyone say Zerox for all copy work? Hey, make a Zerox of that. You'll never hear them complain about that.
Companies sure will complain about it, in order to protect their trademark. If they don't, they could lose their trademark. Aspirin used to be a trademark of Bayer in the United States, until they lost it because the term became generic. Coke and Kleenex have supposedly been in danger of losing their trademarks in the past.
Google has had to take measures to protect their trademark, as folks use their name as a generic term for searching the internet.
