According to the price guides this coin has appreciated quite a bit since I bought it in 2000. I thought it was solid for the grade, but PCGS refused to cross it the one time I tried. Maybe it's just too shiny? It has no toning at all which at least raises the possiblity it had been dipped. Still, luster seems intact and I don't see anything else that would make me question the grade.

Did PCGS offer a reason why it didn't cross? Did you specify "cross at any grade"?

There's a good chance it's been dipped but if it's already in an NGC holder, I'd leave well enough alone.

It's a great looking coin and a scarce date at that. I agree, the coins luster looks to be all there but does have that look of having been dipped. NGC slabbed it, leave it at that IMO

Beautiful SLQ! I need to get me one. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it in 2000?

Amazon,
My cost was just over $1200. I went back on Heritage and copied one of the original auction photos; see below. I thought it looked pretty sharp for a '63 (and still do!).

i agree, unless there are marks that we cant see in the pictures, I would grade it a bit higher than 63

It's a slam dunk at 63, even for PCGS. Perhaps they did not care to cross the Full Head designation.
Rest in Peace

Looks like full head, to me.

Now I see what you guys mean by dipped. That's probably what happened to my Trade dollar, given that I've seen many like it in slabs (not aggressively cleaned though) and that it's extremely, extremely proof-like. It was probably a proof-like coin to begin with and was dipped long ago.

Looks more like something you would hang on a wall in a frame if a bit larger. Just to nice to be a coin.
Leave well enough alone.
