Has anyone came accross a 2 pence coin from 1978 weighing 6.84g
Appear thinner than other coins from same year
Be different in tone/colour than similar coins with a clear die crack accross part of the front (I think that's the correct term)

Do you have clearer pictures?

It's not going to be a unique mint error. A die crack, for example, would almost by definition be on numerous coins.

Lots of coins tone differently, particularly bronze/copper, depending on where they've been. That looks as if it hasn't been treated well.

A coin that is lightweight, thinner than normal and strangely coloured is usually caused by the coin sitting in something acidic (vinegar, coca-cola, that sort of thing). If so, then I suspect the canyons on your coins are also caused by that same corrosive agent.

I wouldn't know where or what's happened to the coin, I've had it for a number of years

to the Forum, Emp123!
The depression to the right of the Queen's nose looks as though it could be a planchet defect / lamination error, but the overall condition of the coin is so poor that it's hard to say. I agree with Sap that it looks as if it's been immersed in acid or some other corrosive agent. This would account for the loss of weight from the original 7.12 grammes.

Not an error collector myself but understanding errors is helpful in understanding the minting process.
