I need some help from all you world collecters. I hit the CoinStar reject slot today and came away with a handful. Some perfectly fine US clad. Two tokens, several Canadian issues and one 10¢ Euro.

I also found an Italian 100 lire. A wreathed head is on the obverse and a spear carrying figure, outstreched arm towards a tree on the reverse. It's dated 1977 and it's attracted to a magnet. ( dang, silver would have been nice.)

I plan on giving it to a newbie collecter and she is of Italian heritage.

The attached images are shamelessly lifted from Google.

Anything to add? I'm sure the noob will be thrilled but any info anyone can add would much appreciated.

Denis

These Italian coins are made of a special kind of stainless steel developed by the Italians specifically for use on their coinage. It's known as acmonital.

Italian coins frequently derive their designs from those used on ancient Roman coins. The figure on the 100 lire is Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom.

100 Lire Minerva (big) minted from 1955 to 1989, 1977 is one of the higher mintage, around 250 bilion, than 100 Lire Minerva small has been minted from 1990 to 1992, same obverse and reverse but much more small.
from 1993 up to 2001 ther has been a new standard 100Lire called Italia Turrita, complete different coin in pictures and metal, in the mean time there has been some Commemorative 100 Lire some w/ the same size and metal as 100 Lire Minerva (big).
