Hi all,

I recently acquired my first raw medal, and it's great, but I don't know where to put it.

I like to keep most of my coins that aren't slabbed in air-tites, but the devices on this medal, in particular the portrait on obverse, are higher than the rim, and put a little dome in the air-tite.

What do you more seasoned collectors of medals/other exonumia do? I could just keep it in a flip, but I'd prefer to put it in some kind of capsule.

Is there anything on the market that fits the bill? This particular medal is only 36 mm diameter, so the big, deeper challenge coin capsules I've seen don't really work.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I've faced a similar issue. Here's what I did:

1. Called AirTite directly (not the supplies company with very similar name). Web site link: https://www.airtiteholders.com/stor...roducts.html

2. Explained my situation.

3. Purchased a 38mm X Model holder and a 38mm X6D holder. They are deeper versions of the standard Air-Tite holders. You can read the details of their dimensions vs. the standard capsules on the web site via the link provided.

4. Purchased several 36 mm rings separate from their standard capsule. I used multiple insert rings in the deeper holders to secure the medal.

The diameter of the 36 mm rings are a little small for the 38 mm capsules, but it's not too bad and the deeper dimension of the Model X holders worked for me and was an acceptable trade-off. The medal stays securely in the multiple rings and the combination has only minor movement in the capsule.

Hope that helps!

Yes, thank you! This is great. I also stumbled across something on Amazon that's a bit pricey for what it is, but might work too. https://www.amazon.com/Lighthouse-C..._B00XHWI7H6/

Although the medal may look a bit wild at the center of a 62 mm capsule!

Yes, it's a good solution for large medals. I have one of my three-inch medals in such a capsule - it works well!

Good luck! Let us know how things worked out for you!
