Split from original thread here: http://goccf.com/t/412790#3545308

@wind, best practice is to start a new thread for each new coin.

@Spence
Thanks, didn't want to spam the board with posts.

I believe this is a contemporary fake. But I would love to have our experts weigh in!!!

Looks like there's an issue about the names of the provinces on the piece.

Yep. The English-side declares the coin to be from Kiangnan province (a province which no longer exists), but the Chinese-side declares it to be from Hopeh (Hebei) province.

This mis-matching is typical of the mass-produced, lower-quality modern fakes, where the fake-makers can't be bothered matching up the obverse and reverse dies properly. It is not a contemporary counterfeit.

It is all good @wind.

@albert and @sap seem to have assessed this fake, but would you mind confirming for us if this piece is attracted to a magnet? Thx.

The piece does not stick to a magnet. It was bought from an old collection and is at least 40 years old. As per the seller.

The mismatch is how I knew it was fake.

Place was called Rivercity coins out of Iowa. Got a great many real coins from them ten years ago. This was the only fake. It weighs right.
