Weight 9.9 grams
Diameter 26-27 millimeters

"head" side barely recognizable but I can see these words:

...VS AVGVSTVS

On the tails side I can see S C.

It's some sort of DIVVS AVGVSTVS As. I can't see 'DIVVS AVGVSTVS PATER', which most of them are, but it's very worn.

It definitely doesn't say 'DIVVS AVGVSTVS VESPASIANVS', so it should have a portrait of Augustus. It was struck posthumously.

The lack of a star in the middle of 'AVGVSTVS' and the large but well-spaced SC on the reverse mean it could be Tiberius RIC 81-83, depending on what's between the S and C. I can't see anything, but the options there are:

- an altar (RIC 81) http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.1(2).tib.81
- an eagle (RIC 82) http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.1(2).tib.82
- a winged thunderbolt (RIC 83) http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.1(2).tib.83

But then again, I might be very wrong. Either way, it looks like it was found somewhere like Britain. Coins of this period are found in Britain but they were struck before the invasion and came over later, so are usually very worn. They also have that green patina.

Thanks, John. I'll study it in hand and see if I can find a plausible match. You've narrowed it down quite a bit.

Edit: Based on the faint outlines, it appears to be a winged thunderbolt.
