I found the 1966 quarter in my bank rolls today that weighs only 5.33 grams rather than the 5.67 grams. It has some discoloration but not terribly worn. Is this common on coins for weights to vary this % amount?

Looks like environmental damage. Not an error or variety. The weight loss is most likely due to the clad layers being removed.

If I dig them out of the ground in Georgia, they look like that.

I agree that the surface discoloration is most likely due to environmental exposure. That might have also contributed to the weight loss, although the circulation wear is also pretty heavy on this one.

Please always show us both sides of your coin, thanks.

I am not sure why you stated it's "not terribly worn" when obviously it is heavily worn from circulation. I agree, environmentally damaged post mint. Looks like a formly buried coin. No premium, just damage. Value: 25 cents, sorry.
