In 2016 this note was sold for 966 $ in "UNC". But the same note cost only 100 $ in grade "F"

Thanks for the replies.

I posted this as a bit of a test (sorry!) hence the probably too vague/terse comment, but it's a modern fake and I was curious to know whether anyone else would pick up on it without being prompted.

I came across another "well circulated" early PBC note on ebay a few weeks ago which looked really authentic at first - not the usual quick tea-stained, scraped across the floor attempt to fake age, however some gut feeling made me suspicious. I'm sure I downloaded the photos but frustratingly I can't find them otherwise I'd post them. It fooled me at first though which is worrying, and it was clearly fooling bidders and the seller (who seemed reputable). Fakes are a particular problem with these 1948-51 PBC notes, though are usually easier to spot. If I came across that for a good price at a fair or similar (where sometimes my senses don't always work as well, especially after a few hours) it would have fooled me. As would the above.

I'm going to attempt to improve the guidance on my site though there's only so much that can be done.
