You will be forgiven if you didn't notice the second clip. That big one pretty much dominates the attention, but in the end it's still a double clip. Coin is clad and weighs 3.82g.

That's pretty spectacular! How come the large one is so irregular?

Awww, it just barely clipped off the mintmark area, now we'll never know where it was minted .

The larger clips can have quite the deformities when it comes to actual shape.

Nice clipped quarter. These larger denominations seem to be harder to find. (Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places?)

I'm pretty sure the irregular shape has to do with metal being forced into the different parts of the die.

This is a great one to show how, during the strike, the metal going into the shallow parts of the die (the fields for example) spread out in a horizontal plain.

While metal flowing into the deeper parts flow "up" into the recesses of the die. Some of the unevenness is the point where these two areas collide. Some metal goes "up" and some metal goes "out".

Hope this makes sense.
