I recently purchased this 1935 A series Hawaii silver certificate Dollar note. On the front of this bill it appears to to have the reverse lettering of one dollar and Washington DC on the left side of the note, This certificate is legal tender for all debts public and private on the right side of the note. Part of the border are noticeable as well. No other part of the reverse imaging but what is mentioned. My question is how can only the center sections and nothing else be transferred in the negative? My first thought was moisture but everything else should have transferred in the negative as well. Any input is greatly appreciated.

It looks like minor ink transfer from another note it may have been stored with. I'm familiar with the old sayings like, One man's trash is another man's treasure and One man's ceiling is another man's floor, but why would you show interest in and purchase a problem note ? That poor note has multiple heavy folds, missing pieces and staining. Was it a price thing ?

Because it was cheap and I found it rather interesting.

I think Steve says it well - just an incidental ink transfer from a long time ago and worth little in this worn state. Not a BEP error for sure.

Nope, not there. What is a 'BEP Error'?

EDIT: Got it.. Bureau of Engraving and Printing

EDIT: Put in for an addition to the Glossary for 'BEP'
